WORKSHOPS

Mission

Driven by a desire to help people of all ages and stages engage with poetry, I runs workshops in schools, churches, libraries, and with The Psalmists collective in prisons.

Schools Workshops

For the last 15 years, I’ve had the privilege of working across KS1 to KS5 in various roles, from playworker to school chaplain, to EDI coordinator, to my current role as a student wellbeing coordinator. I also have a certificate in life coaching and am a certified mental health first aider.

Over the years in education, I’ve developed a series of poetry workshops designed to enhance students’ literacy and writing skills, but also build confidence, encourage mindfulness, and provide a safe space for emotional expression.

Each workshop is designed to complement curricula, and enrich the learning experience across subjects. I am flexible in adapting workshops to specific budgets, schedules aswell as group sizes, educational needs to specific topics,

Working with Joey was a great process from start to finish. I gave him a vague brief and he created an incredibly engaging workshop for 120 pupils y5-y6. All the pupils produced fantastic spoken word following Joey’s assembly and workshop and they still talk about the experience as a highlight to this day!”

“Highlight of my time at College.” Sixth Form College Workshop

Attending life in lyrics, without a doubt, has been the highlight of my time at college. DJ took an inspirational concept and brought it to life by giving students a space to write and create. Life in lyrics wasn’t only a social space but an outlet for individuals, and I’m grateful for the opportunities this has provided for me and my writing.”

Community Workshops

My work also extends to adults, and I’ve partnered with Westminster Council and charities such as Oak London and The Psalmists to deliver a variety of workshops for a range of demographics.

Workshops are often framed around poetry as a way to:  spark creative expression, cultivate mindfulness, develop connections, improve emotional literacy,  explore beliefs, and to build confidence through public speaking.

I hadn’t written poetry since I was 15, but these sessions have brought me real joy and helped me discover the poet within. Through encouragement, kindness, and an accessible approach to poetry, I found the confidence to share my work publicly for the first time. This group genuinely makes a difference—to confidence, creativity, and wellbeing.”
